The Little Gym Adds Dance to Program Offerings

Yorba Linda, CA (PRWEB) January 16, 2006

"Dance The Little Gym Way" is the newest program at The Little Gym of Yorba Linda, California, teaching girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 12 the basics of ballet and tap, while incorporating creative movement and gymnastics.

Dance is more than tights and tutus -- for children at The Little Gym it is a key to developing motor skills and self-confidence. Dance The Little Gym Way is the newest program at The Little Gym of Yorba Linda in Orange County, California, teaching girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 12 the basics of ballet and tap, while incorporating creative movement and gymnastics. Like other classes at The Little Gym, dance classes are curriculum-based and help kids build strength, coordination and motor skills.

?Our goal is to teach children a love of dance through themed activities that build self-confidence,? said Sweta Parekh, Owner of The Little Gym in Yorba Linda. ?We do this in a fun and nurturing environment.?

A franchise company headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., The Little Gym is considered the premier developer of motor skills in children worldwide. The company uses curriculum-based gymnastics, movement and other programs to promote coordination, balance, rhythm and flexibility. In addition, The Little Gym?s programs have a proven track record of enhancing children?s listening, social and intellectual skills.

?Parents appreciate the combination of dance and gymnastics, and love being able to watch and learn along with their kids,? said Marissa Bucknell, Program Director at the gym.

The Dance Classes consist of 30 minutes of dance including ballet, tap and creative movement, plus 30 minutes of age-appropriate gymnastics. Students learn positions and steps, and then put the steps together to create a dance.

The gymnastics portion of the class includes activities on gym apparatus like the bars and beam. Instead of a traditional recital, students participate in ?Show Week? at the end of each 20-week semester, with routines in ballet and tap as well as on the bar and beam.

The Little Gym of Yorba Linda offers a variety of other classes, including a Parent/Child class that lets parents join their children in exploring basic motor and social-skill development. Other programs at The Little Gym include Preschool and Grade School Gymnastics, Karate and Sports Skill Development, all of which are held in a non-competitive, nurturing environment.

Classes are taught from 9 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The Little Gym reserves Saturday and Sunday afternoons for birthday parties.
